Dr Pius Kasolo
Dr. Pius is a well-known and respected SADC wide business strategist known for his technical expertise in the field of mining exploration. His mining sector experience spans over 20 years in the UK, Europe and pan-Africa.
Pius began his career as a student geologist at ZCCM Copper mines in Zambia in 1980 and went on to become a senior economic geologist at Zambia’s Geological Survey Department. In 1991, having completed his post-doctoral research in Geochemistry, he joined BHP Billiton as a consultant geologist evaluating mining projects in Africa. He then spent four years with the London-based mining company SAMAX Resources.
Pius did a two-year stint as a senior consultant at the European Union in Brussels before joining JCI in South Africa in 1997 as a group generative exploration manager, in charge of mine acquisition in West Africa. Later in his career, he was the CEO of ZCCM IH for over 5 years, turning around the company from a loss making position to a world class investment company. Pius has also worked with Anglo American and MAC Consulting South Africa.
Pius holds a Master’s degree in Basin Analysis and Economic Geology from Nancy Ecole de Mine in France. He also has a PhD in Economic Geology from the University of Southampton in the UK, where he did post-doctoral research. In addition, Pius studied for an MBA at Thames Valley University in the UK.
